There are several established meshes serving our region. When using Meshtastic in these areas, users should follow the established operating parameters and procedures applicable to each mesh. Refer to each network's website, Discord, Groups.io or other published resources for additional details.
The default settings for US operation are: 906.875 MHz US/LongFast, slot 20, hop limit 3. If there's no widely established mesh or if the local parameters are unknown, the defaults are a good place to start.
Meshtastic is a community-operated system. For best results, adhere to the settings and operating practices established on your local portion of the mesh. Consult with other node operators before establishing nodes using the Repeater or Router roles, and before building new network segments with different channel parameters or LoRa mode settings. Many local meshes have Discord servers, Facebook groups, mailing lists, or other mechanisms for coordinating with your neighbors. Where available, we've provided links below.
RATS does not serve as a coordinating entity for any portion of the Meshtastic network. In the Richmond metro area, you're looking for RVA Mesh.
