AREDN in Virginia

W4RAT-MIDL

RATS operates a 3-sector 5.8 GHz AREDN node near Midlothian.  W4RAT-MIDL tower-mounted radios and antennas are located around 200 feet above ground level at the Virginia Public Media facilities near Chesterfield Towne Center, about 8 miles west-southwest of Richmond.

Previous AREDN nodes in Beaverdam, Henrico, downtown Richmond, and Powhatan have all been decommissioned.  W4RAT-MIDL provides 360 degrees of coverage and serves as a potential relay point between future AREDN home stations or other backbone nodes.

VPN access is also available, which allows nodes to extend a mesh outside of its contiguous RF coverage area.  Contact us for VPN access.

Antennas:  Ubiquiti Airmax 5 GHz 120-degree 13 dBi
Parameters:  W4RAT-MIDL-NE ch 139, W4RAT-MIDL-SE ch 137, W4RAT-MIDL-W ch 143.  All channels are 10 MHz wide.

Hampton Roads area AREDN

There are several stations operating AREDN nodes in the Williamsburg, Newport News, Yorktown, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach areas.  Nodes in this area use a mix of 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz equipment.  At this time, we're not aware of any website or other central contact point for AREDN activity in the Hampton Roads region.  [Teach us something new]
